Description

This publication collects relevant information to promote dialogue and debate on technology financing policies in the agricultural sector. The objective is to serve as a practical guide for public development banks when defining and justifying lines, programs and interventions for the financing of development and the adoption of new digital technologies (NTDs) in the agricultural sector of Latin America and the Caribbean. The opportunities and challenges of supporting the financing of technological change, and therefore the improvement in the productivity of the sector, are addressed. Today, the range of available technologies, resulting from the digitalization of the economy, has opened up new opportunities for investment in agriculture. At the same time, it establishes criteria for the selection and discussion of support instruments and sheds light on what elements should be taken into account in their design, in order to promote dialogue with the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. The analysis adopts a double perspective: from the perspective of financing the agricultural productive sector as an adopter of technologies and from the perspective of financing and support to the innovation sector as a developer of value propositions adapted to the characteristics of the agricultural sector in the region.
